Weekly Gray Whale Counts in B.C.S.

Abundance Surveys Begin in Mid-January Each Winter

The number and distribution of gray whales in Laguna San Ignacio and in Bahía Magdalena are estimated each week from boat surveys in each area. These counts are used to interpret the relative minimum abundance of adult single whales and the number of female-calf pairs in these lagoon areas each week of the winter season.
